“To be” Verb in Past Tense

Definition: 

Be verb in past tense carries the similar usage as present tense.
It is used to describe things in past.

For example:

1. To describe a person or a thing in past:

She was beautiful.
You were thin.
He was handsome.

2. To tell a past state:

You were sad.
She was happy.
We were hungry.

3. To show identity:

He was a student.
It was a chocolate.
She was a dancer.

4. To show the quality of a person or a thing:

It was good.
She was clever.
He was intelligent.

5. To mention the location in past:

She was in the school.
He was in the shop.

6. To mention the profession:

He was a scientist.
She was a designer.

7. To mention the colour:

It was yellow in colour.
That was pink in colour.

8. To mention the age:

He was seven years old.
She was 12 years old.

9. To tell that a person was in a particular event:

He was in the meeting.
She was in a function.
