What is meant by a Tense?
Tense is the most important part of communication. Tenses make the communication stronger. In short, tenses are the backbone of a language.
Tenses help us to create sentences about the actions done by a person or a thing or an animal at different times and in different situations.
We use tenses to create sentences about the person, thing, or an
animal in different times and situations.
Using tenses, we can create sentences based on the actions taking place at particular timings.
There are 3 basic tenses in English.
1.Present Tense
2.Past Tense
3.Future Tense
Why should we know about Tenses?
- To create proper and error free sentences.
- To create sentences based on the actions which take place at a particular time.In tenses, “auxiliary verbs” play a major role.
Auxiliary Verbs
Auxiliary verbs are the base of tenses.
Auxiliary verbs are called as helping verbs/ linking verbs/ joining verbs. Auxiliary verbs help in creating the basic sentences.
Types of auxiliary verbs:
1.Primary auxiliary verbs
2.Modal auxiliary verbs
