Have Verb – Affirmative & Negative Sentences

“Have Verb” sentences in negative form (Present Tense) :

Examples 1:

I have a pen.

Rule to convert this sentence into negative sentence :

Steps:
  1. Tense and subject of the sentence should be checked.
  2. According to the tense and subject, “do” verb should be added next to the subject as (do + not) in the sentence.
  3. To convert “do verb and have verb” sentences, “do” verb is introduced next to the subject.

I have a pen.

I (do+not) have a pen.

  1. After (do+ not) is added next to the subject, the verb
    (have) which is already in the sentence should always be
    changed to the base form.
Example 2:

She has a pen.

To convert this as a negative sentence,

  1. “Do” verb is introduced in the sentence.
  2. The “do verb” should be according to the subject.
  3. The “do verb” should also be based on the tense.
  4. According to present tense and the subject “she”, “does” is introduced in the sentence.
  5. So, (does+not) is added next to the subject of the sentence to convert into negative form.
    She has a pen.
    She (does+not) have a pen.
  6. The verb “has” which is in the sentence should be changed into base form as “have”.
Note:
  1. For the possession, either “have or has” is used in present
    form.
  2. The term “having” should not be used to describe a
    possession.
  • I have a book. (correct)
    I am having a book. (wrong)
  • She has a pen. (correct)
    She is having a pen. (wrong)
Example sentences:
  1. I have books.
    I (do+not) have books.
  2. You have pet animals.
    You (do+not) have pet animals.
  3. She has a diamond necklace.
    She (does+not) have a diamond necklace.
  4. He has an imported bike.
    He (does+not) have an imported bike.
  5. This book has 100 pages.
    This book (does+not) have 100 pages.
  6. That person has cinema tickets.
    That person (does+not) have cinema tickets.
  7. We have our own house.
    We (do+not) have our own house.
  8. They have work.
    They (do+not) have work.
  9. These children have story books.
    These children (do+not) have story books.
  10. Those employees have free time.
    Those employees (do+not) have free time.

Exercise – 35

Convert the following sentences into Negative sentences: (“Have verb” – Present tense)
  1. I have books.
  2. You have a dvd player.
  3. Sima has LED t.v.
  4. My cousin has a dog.
  5. This film has three parts.
  6. That girl has a long hair.

Have Verb – Negative Sentence in Past Tense:

To convert (have verb) sentences into Negative sentences:

Example 1: I had a dog.

Rule:

To convert this sentence into negative sentence,

  1. Tense and subject of the sentence should be checked.
  2. According to the tense, “did” is added to the sentence.
  3. Based on the subject, “did” is introduced in past tense.
  4. The verb “had” in the sentence should be changed into base form as “have”.
    I had a dog.
    I (did+not) have a dog.
Example 2:

She had a dog.
She (did+not) have a dog.

In this sentence, according to the tense and subject, “did” can be added to the negative sentence.

Example sentences:
  1. I had my breakfast.
    I (did+not) have my breakfast.
  2. You had an i phone.
    You (did+not) have an i phone.
  3. She had cookies.
    She (did+not) have cookies.
  4. He had platinum rings.
    He (did+not) have platinum rings.
  5. This kid had toys.
    This kid (did + not) have toys.
  6. That boy had a good sense of humour.
    That boy (did+not) have a sense of humour.
  7. We had a ticket to travel.
    We (did+not) have a ticket to travel.
  8. They had good memories.
    They (did+not) have good memories.
  9. These children had books.
    These children (did+not) have books.
  10. Those kids had playing cards.
    Those kids (did+not) have playing cards.

Convert the following sentences into Negative sentences:
(“have” verb in Past tense)
  1. I had my exams.
