Primary Auxiliary Verbs

Affirmative and Negative sentences:

I did my work.
I did not do my work.

To create negative sentences, (did+not) is added next to the subject of the sentence, which should be

1. Based on the tense of the sentence.
2. Based on the subject of the sentence.
3. In past tense, (do or does) cannot be introduced. Only “did” can be introduced.
4. The “do verb” which is already in the form of “did” in the sentence should always be changed into the base form as “do”.

To convert the sentence from Positive to Negative
sentence in Past tense, the below rules are followed:

1. Tense of the sentence should be checked.
2. According to the Past tense, “did” should be introduced
   next to the subject with the term “not”.
   For example: I “did not”
3. The next step is to bring “did” that exists in the sentence
   to the base form as “do”.
   I did my work.
   I (did+not) do my work.
4. When the sentence is converted into negative, the verb “did” in the sentence should be changed into base form as “do”.

Example sentences of Past tense using “to do” verb:

1. You did your work.
   You (did not) do your work.
2. He did his project.
   He (did not) do his project.
3. She did her homework.
   She (did not) do her homework.
4. The boy did his work.
   The boy (did not) do his work.
5. This guy did a good job.
   This guy (did not) do a good job.
6. That man did his duty.
   That man (did not) do his duty.
7. They did their job.
   They (did not) do their job.
8. These men did their job.
   These men (did not) do their job.
9. Those students did their homework.
   Those students (did not) do their homework.

Exercise – 30

Convert the positive sentences into negative sentences :

1. Ron did his project work.
2. Naira did her homework on time.
3. We did our breakfast.
4. The servants did their work.
5. My friends did their job.
6. My mom and I did a work.
7. They did meditation.
8. People did their pending work.

Note:

In “do verb” and “have verb” sentences, “do verb” should be introduced when the sentences are converted into negative form and Yes/No type questions.
